Cheaters Can Be Sued

R. Kelly is finding out that cheating with a married woman has monetary consequences.

R. Kelly is being sued by the husband of one of his alleged lovers. Is that even a legal option? In certain U.S. states, the mistress or manstress can be taken to court for cheating accusations.

If you have an affair in Hawaii, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota or Utah, their spouse could come after you for financial damages.

The laws date back to a time when wives were considered a husband’s property. Those laws are still on the books in the aforementioned states. Juries in North Carolina have awarded more than $1 million in multiple occasions.

Perhaps R. Kelly will learn his lesson, but we’re not holding our breath.
