Harry and Meghan’s First Royal Outing As Married Couple
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were happily wed at Windsor Castle this passed Saturday.
The two have since made their first appearance at a royal engagement as a married couple. They attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace in honor of the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday. Prince Charles’ actual birthday is not for another six months but they figured they would kick off the celebrations early to acknowledge the immense amount of charity work that he has done.
The collection of royalty was accompanied by 6,000 individuals from charities they support. According to BBC, “to mark the one year anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing, emergency service workers who were on the scene on the night of the attack also attended.”
Prince Harry delivered a speech alongside his new wife during which he opened with a moment to commemorate those who lost their lives in Manchester attack. He then went on to discuss how his father’s charitable efforts are what have inspired him and his brother, William, to become so deeply invested in charities on their own. Harry wasted no time to ensure his father was thanked.
“Pa, while I know that you’ve asked that today not be about you, you must forgive me if I don’t listen to you – much like when I was younger – and instead, I ask everyone here to say a huge thank you to you, for your incredible work over nearly 50 years.”
It appears that the first outing for the newly-wed couple was surely one of benevolence, and we hope for many more to come!
